Oh Dear Baby Boy,
You are three months old now and what a month it's been!
You've just gone through your three month growth spurt this week which meant 24 solid hours of eating every hour and not sleeping more than 20 minutes here and there. You and I were both exhausted. I think I learned from your previous growth spurts that if I didn't eat and drink enough I'd get sick. So this time, even though you needed to be held the entire 24 hours, I did make an effort to eat more than usual. This seemed to have helped.
The next day you slept all day long and then were up a lot that night. But I'm not excited to wake a sleeping baby so I let you sleep when you need to sleep.
I'm trying to get you on a more regimented nap and bedtime schedule. Your current bedtime is anywhere between 7 pm and midnight. It varies from day to day. You sleep either all day or hardly at all.
But your nighttime feedings have pretty much stabilized at 3 am and 6 am give or take a half hour or so.
You smile and laugh and coo and are even starting to experiment with ah-goo sounds. Your favorite places to play are on the changing table and in your crib since you LOVE your mobile and the cute little bugs hanging from it.
Your dad has been working marathon hours, sometimes getting home around midnight after going in at 8 am. He's on a tight deadline and will likely be continuing this exhausting schedule until February. I've been dealing with it pretty well until last night when I had a breakdown. I just missed him so much and even though you were not being cranky or anything, really needed him home to help. Being the amazing man he is, he came home to his crying wife to give both you and I lots of love.
You decided this month that your bath was terrifying. Letting out a scream of terror that made me cry. Thank goodness your dad was the one bathing you so that I didn't yank you out of the water immediately. Last night we just slowly lowered you in, dipping toes first and then legs etc. You were much better about it. I think we need more frequent baths for you, not because you are dirty, but because you forget about water between them and become afraid.
We've joined a group of four other moms and their newborns and we see them for coffee and walks on the beach twice a week. It's wonderful and although you and the other babies aren't at socializing age yet, it sure is good for us moms.
You've outgrown all of your 0 to 3 month clothing and so you've now got a new wardrobe. I'm not sure what your weight and length is since we don't go to the doctor again until next month, but I'm figuring your 15 pounds now. You sure feel that way!
You now like your Baby Bjorn pretty well as long as you are facing forward. You do however get really pissed if we stand around too long while you are riding in it. So trips to the grocery store across the street have to be well planned as to what is needed and where it is.
You're going on your first plane ride at the end of this month. We're all going back to Virginia to visit friends and get our condo ready for sale. It's also mommy and daddy's first wedding anniversary on the 30th so you might be getting a sitter that night!
You are growing up so fast little man and every day you give me the wonderful gift of your love. I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing than being your mommy.
We love you!
Mommy
